Hello and thank you very much in advance for your answers. It is the first time that I am forced to have to ask something about C5, since I have always found a lot of information and help in the posts.
My question is the following:
I want to remove the PAS from my corvette, but I don't want a C5 without power steering at all. I want to do it to get better precision and better steer the vehicle.
I think there would be several ways:
-I don't know if a C7 EPS would be possible, since they speak highly of it.
-Manual steering and attaching an electronic servo, there are kits out there for sale for classic cars.
-Or convert the factory one to a manual one and install an electronic servo kit, but I don't know if the factory rack-pinion set is up for this effort.
-Install an aftermarket EPS or from another vehicle other than a corvette that can be installed.
I do not want an electric pump, I want to completely eliminate everything that has to do with oil, I want an EPS (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING) to eliminate the magnasteer system, since it is the hydraulic valve system that it has is very imprecise at high speeds.
The same thing I have not explained myself well with what I want to achieve.
Thank you very much for your prompt response.
I might as well agree to keep the whole stock system if someone knows how to open the valve body, so I can harden the valve deformation.
Has anyone made it this far?
Not that I know of but, some have retrofitted various newer items which are quite amazing. I remember the electric pump conversion and there was this rebuild thread so that you can see inside.
I have watched videos on electric power steering. I believe Level 7 has one on their C10 they race. United by Trucks had a few good videos on the build on the youtubes..
Thanks but my power steering was already rebuilt by my hands and coincidentally with that same kit.
I can't find any information on what I'm looking for, I feel weird about this topic, when I've always found a lot of information on this forum.
I am going to take advantage of a photo from the post that happened to me, I want to separate these two pieces, to access the formable valve and see why I have so much clearance there in the two complete headsets that I have at home. That's why I decided on the EPS option, but it may be worth giving me a solution to this problem, which resides in many C5s, if not all.
That is what I put in my first comment, in the case of being able to adapt an EPS, will the pinion be able to withstand the extra effort for which I imagine it is not designed? It may or may not, but I don't think it's as strong as a manual design direction.
