Thinking of buying a 2000 vet with 38000 miles but after watching all the utube about the ebcm I’m getting freaked out. I know if it goes bad it can’t be fixed. My question is should I pass on the car and buy a 2001 or newer, I really like this 2000 and it is in my price range just scared about ebcm
Buy it, don't let the fear of the EBCM failing deter you, if it fails sometime in the future you can always update the EBCM with a newer one from a 2001.
I have a '99. The anti-lock brakes and active handling both work as of now, and if they quit I'll find a way to deal with it. Yes I worry a bit that it might, but every time I shift into 3rd, or head into a 15 mph corner with the speedo at 35 I tend to forget the EBCM...
First and foremost, you need to take a good look through the 'must read' thread: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...fo-thread.html
There are thousands of pre-01 cars, of which some have EBCM or SWPS issues. If the car does not have an issue at this time -- and you can check -- then there isn't any real reason to fear it will, and while good used EBCMs aren't plentiful (or cheap) they are available. It is possible to update to the later EBCM, but from reading the process it is no day at the park.

Even if it goes out the car is still driveable, you lose anti-lock braking and traction control. If those are features you plan on utilizing often then find a 2001 or newer. If you mostly cruise around and look good those features are not critical. Depending on your state inspection criteria it may not pass inspection. It does not turn on the check engine light but it does illuminate other lights.
I bow down to all. Especially the mods that keep erroneously blocking my account thinking I’m someone else.
Mods always block someone for a specific reason. Not because they're old and out of touch. Most times it's to protect the membership from scammers and catfishing. Be careful about ruffling feathers....
