My experience has always been that GM parts often not only cost a bit more but are also often a bit better. No one on the OEM side wants to do a job twice, so their replacement parts fit and work. No, they don’t make an equivalent cam or valve springs to Comp or PSI, but GM lifters have been known to last 300K in LS applications.
Will be swapping heads and my mechanic recommended Comp Cams 850-16 lifters over GM LS7 lifters. He said they are higher quality and run quieter.
This is for an LS1 adding 243 heads and a mid-range cam. Around town driver and no racing…
Thoughts…?
Whats wrong with ls1 lifter?? Been proven street/strip with very much success. LS 7 were great lithes but know is hit or miss. Tons of people add cams and spring with stock lifters with no problems. Only if they dont make ls1 anymore.
I will be swapping in new heads and cam, so the opportunity for new lifters arose.
The LS7 variety are a redesign with the thicker part extending further along the body. I was also told that the Comps are quieter than the GM LS7’s.
I agree that many GM parts are well done, but the aftermarket also has some superior options. So, trying to get some comparison feedback before pulling the trigger. 👍
