Default Strange HUD Issue…

Hey gang,

Got an ‘01 C5 with the HUD. My HUD turns on fine, it’s plenty bright, and it moves perfectly. But the HUD doesn’t actually show me any info while I’m driving. It’s just stuck in this mode where it just shows a bunch of stuff, and it never actually syncs up with the car. I attached a picture here of what the HUD looks like even when I’m driving the car. Any ideas on what is going on here? Feel like the HUD may need a reset if that’s possible, but this car is very new to me and I’m not sure if that’s even a thing.

thank you!

also, have you tried cycling through the hud options to see if anything changes?
It has never worked since I purchased the car! I know that the HUD on this particular vehicle was changed at one point because of the falling mirror issue. The HUD that’s in it now moves up and down perfectly, turns on and off just fine. I just can’t get it to display what the car is actually doing. I’m not sure what HUD options you’re referring to, would it be the Page button on the left above the HUD dimmer? If so whenever I press the Page button, nothing happens.

How can I check to see if the windshield is HUD compliant? Wouldn’t the HUD not display at all then?

The HUD is a projector. The windshield reflects what is being projected. A HUD windshield is a better reflector than a not HUD windshield. The windshield cannot change what is being projected onto it. Your problem is not the windshield.

I had a non-HUD compliant windshield installed in Mt 2000 C5 last Summer. Couldn't see any difference in intensity. ALL C5 windshields will reflect the info, if the HUD is working. Sure, some glass may not be as reflective as what mine is, but any windshield should display it, maybe just not as bright. Your windshield is displaying some light, just no info. Windshield reflectivity is NOT the problem here. I can't help you any further, other than this; some HUD units "fall," or shift slightly, though I don't think this is the problem. These guys may be able to help you out: @C5Diag or @mmartinez. Good luck
