Good evening, i suddenly have developed a draw on my C5 battery. When i jump the ground cable to the battery post thru a test light the light illuminates. Reconnecting the ground there is a relay type clunk coming from the front end accompanied by a spark.
(underhood light off) does anyone have any thoughts on what the culprit might be?
(I R and R A 1989 restoration i did of my 69 big block 390hp
each under hood fuse with no luck. Have not yet pulled interior fuses)
If you’re using an incandescent test light they draw about 300-400 milliamps so if you have a voltmeter you can do a voltage drop check which is preferred over pulling fuses…video below.
There is no culprit, what you saw and heard when connecting the negative battery cable was normal. In order to determine if your car has excessive current draw you have to connect a DVM in series with the negative battery cable and battery terminal. The DVM should of course be configured as a ammeter and select the 10A scale. Wait at least 20 minutes for car to enter sleep mode, acceptable sleep mode current drain should be 20-25ma.
