Having a hard time getting an oil reading. The oil sort of rides up along the dipstick not fully across but goes up very high. All the while I’m getting a low oil level reading. Sensor is fine. Is there a trick to reading oil with a c5 ?
thankyouuu!

No, but is it possible that the oil tube the stick rides in bent or damaged ?, The single best way to determine the oil level on a New to you or me Corvette, drain the oil and put on a new filter and refill exactly 5.5 qtrs. and then look where it registers on the dipstick.
Also, do you have LT headers on the car? On the earlier C5's it often requires modifying the dip stick tube to install headers. This could be part of your issue as well.

For something so critical to both longevity and performance I’m constantly surprised at how little good reference material I find. I would think the end goal would be to know the oil level relative to bottom flange of the block, so that we have enough to feed the pump during acceleration and turns with out having any extra to cause windage, no?
I just changed the oil and filter for the first time, it took only 6 qts. Have checked it several times afterward and is right on the full mark. Filled filter up than added the remaining of the 6 qts.

The oil pan holds 6 quarts. The filter holds another half quart. However, it can be tricky to get every last bit of the old oil out of the pan. This likely accounts for the difference.
Thanks, I had it on a rack and left it drain until nothing else came out. Just went out and checked again and right at full mark, will just have to keep checking
I'm with the crowd that finds it impossible to get any type of reading on their dipstick. Hot, cold, sitting for days first, nada. I've always ended up with nothing close to a level to read lol. Only car I've ever had that issue with.

When I have trouble reading the dip stick, I usually find that a magnifying glass and trouble light help. Get the light to reflect off the dip stick, the oil level should be easy to see.
