Default c5 dimmer switch good or bad?

It will go all the way clockwise and turn on inside lights but dash etc lights stay dim, not working as a ‘dimmer’ switch. I Hate to pull the dash to replace that module if it’s something else.

Help!
Thanks!!!

Default

Well it works as an adjustable resistor (rheostat). The more you turn it clockwise the less resistance to current flow it has and thus the brighter the illumination. The fix...you will need to pull it and can spray it with electrical contact cleaner and work it left and right to try and clean the contact points. Also you can measure the resistance across it at different turning points and see the resistance change (in ohms) with a DVM. If no improvement is seen then probably a replacement is the cure.

Default ok

Thanks, I do know how it works but hoped maybe there was an alternative to pulling the dash. Ah well. Reality bites again.
