I have heard a rumor at a recent Corvette show that I'd like to bring to the forum for verification. That rumor was that 2 different multifunction switches were made for our cars. Apparently one for the twilight sentinel cars, and one for cars without TS. Can anyone enlighten me on whether this is fact, or just another rumor? Thanks guys.....
Yeah, I guess I got one of the last new OEM ones 2 years ago from Amazon. The reason I asked is my horn wouldnt work after the install. Even with the new membrane. However, it didnt work before that, either! Thats why I got the new horn membrane. Still no horn. So, C&S looked at it, and they had to move a wire in order to make the horn work as it should. I read somewhere online that there are 2 different multifunction switches. So I'm wondering whats up with that??
Mike, I don’t believe there are 2 different MFS’s looking at Alldata for reference…what wire did C&S move ??…a wire from the MFS ??…the horn circuit is pretty simple so I don’t know why they would have to alter the wiring…did they say ??

Don't remember, Rob. But the horn works now!! I think they re-pinned a wire in the cars harness. I'd probably remember if I took the steering bezel off and thought about it awhile. Thankfully, I do have the original MFS in my box at home. I'm just wondering if the one I got at Amazon was a genuine GM part? I remember it was wrapped in GM or AC/Delco plastic, so it looked to be the real deal. That doesn't mean much, unfortunately. This car has a few electrical gremlins, as you know. Right turn signal still works most of the time, but not always. Now, on the twilight Sentinel, everything but tha dash lights work. They worked before C&S moved the wire, so???? Not blaming them, but it was awfully coincidental. Never use twilight sentinel anyway, but need the horn, so I'm glad it works.....
I don’t know if you’re still down here but if you want to drive on down when the turn signal doesn’t work I’d be happy to take a look…and maybe see what C&S may have screwed up !!

Yeah, I'm still here, and thanks for the offer, Rob. Thank you VERY MUCH. Wish I was closer!! The damn thing works when it's not around a tech guy like you! Then I'll get 10-15 miles down the road, and it acts up again!! I'll be heading back to the mitten May 15. Still too damn cold up there, lol......
How long ago did you buy the switch? They’ve been discontinued for a while from gm. Also, check your Amazon history to see who the seller was. Lots of great Chevy dealers sell through Amazon which is a great way to see if your part was genuine. You can also compare the new one to the old gm oem one. The differences will be readily observable and patent if your current one is aftermarket
2 or 3 years. GM was supposed to be the seller. But there are a LOT of Chinese knock-offs out there, with damn good counterfeit packaging....
Gm doesn’t sell through Amazon. It would have been through a dealer, a third party seller, or just “Amazon”. Nevertheless, you’re right on the cusp of when these were discontinued. Whoever did your install would have been easily to tell if it was a knock off by the wiring etc. also, heck the fit and finish and compare it to your oem. You’ll instantly be able to tell a knock off. The switch won’t click the same, the feel and color od the writing won’t be the same, etc.
Must've been the real deal then, because it looks high quality, has good, firm clicks, and works perfectly. To be fair to C&S, my horn hadn't worked correctly before the MFS change. I don't know why. Everything was factory in the dash. The horn only worked with the fob. Now, it works fine, EXCEPT with the fob, lol. Perhaps there was another issue, I dont know. But when he looked at the wiring, he said there was no way the horn could've worked. Go figure.....
I agree to a point. At nearly 70 years old, some things are considerably more difficult than they once were. But hey, I'm glad I'm still here!! I have an old Irish proverb on my patio. It reads:
Do not regret growing old; many are denied the privilege!!
