ATI Harmonic Balancer Questions
My balancer is going out. After reading here, I think I will do a ATI balancer, I see there are two (aluminum & steel) on their website. They show part numbers 917246 and 917266 but the diameter is a little different. Which balancer should I choose? Also is it worth the $150 to get the pin kit? I'm leaning yes, but times are tight. Thanks for your thoughts.

I've had the aluminum outer shell version for twelve years, the shell is where the serpentine belt grooves are. I chose aluminum because it doesn't rust and squeek like the stock iron damper. The pin kit isn't necessary unless you plan on adding a supercharger someday, the pin kit can always be added then or if you change the timing chain set or front cover seal since the steel ATI hub needs to be removed for that.

I believe it is: damper #917266, shell #917074CS, 4 rib rear pulley #1916734 and hub # 916032-M3. This is the second one down on the ATI Chevy, Y body chart for a '97-'04 LS1. The hub is steel, the shell is aluminum and the rear pulley for the A/C is aluminum. I would call them to make sure because mine was bought over 12 years ago. Make sure to use the correct Torx Plus bit for assembly instead of a normal Torx if the damper uses those fasteners.
