Which is why I don't place a lot of faith in Amazon user reviews.
Definitely gotta take the reviews with a grain of salt! But - it's still additional information beyond what we have here, and just as valuable (if not more so) than our speculation here.
Maybe. Over half of the valid reviews on the first page of 10 I see complain that they "didn't work", "requires RF tool", "needed bigger magnet", etc.
It's sad that this technology is so incredibly simple, yet the manufacturers and vendors just can't seem to get their stuff straight. Even the shops that install them are usually completely dependent on the tools to walk them through the process so they don't have to learn and think for themselves. There are literally two frequencies, two modulation strategies, and maybe three or four other variables to how these things work (number of pids they send, length of sensor ID). It doesn't need to be this difficult, but even the big companies like tpms.com don't have a lot of useful information available for the consumers to educate themselves.
OHRedSled I wish you luck. I've got enough cars that have these annoying buggers that spending $120 on the programming tool was worth every penny to be able to "turn the light off" myself. If your tire guys are cool they should be able to help you out, but if not I'd buy the Xtra Seal tool if you have any other vehicles that have TPMS.
By the way, RockAuto has a very liberal return policy. If you find overwhelming evidence the Dorman sensors aren't compatible they'll probably take them back even though they don't show these in their compatibility matrix for 01-04 C5s.
Well dang, the Schrader magnet didn't work either . Looks like I'm on to another brand. Going to fire off an e-mail to Dorman and tell them they need to rework their product...
Those on eBay are a better price than on Amazon and look like the same I have in my 2001 except mine aren't clamp-in stems. They're good quality sensors and have provisions for cradle flash so they should have as-new battery capacity when you get them. They are RF tool only so don't waste time trying a magnet on them.
As jdmvette mentioned previously, and I've also recommended to everyone I deal with on the 97-00 sensors, try a relearn with the sensors before having them installed in the rims so you won't have these headaches again.
So I just ordered the sensors you recommended, they will be here Saturday. I called Dorman Tech support regarding their sensors and they had no answers other than they should work with the factory relearn procedure. Hoefully 3's a charm here!
Just go to the tire training and when it says LF, hold the button on the tool touching the sensor and the horn will honk, moving on to RF/RR/LR then done.
Then take them to install. After that you'll need to drive for a few minutes as it took me a little bit for them to show on DIC but they've been great ever since
I used the Shrader magnet and it worked just like the video said. Same procedure JDMVette is talking about.
Schrader 20143 TPMS Magnet
But my sensors are new-
(slightly better price for them on ebay at the time)
I got the MORESENSORS you had luck with and got them installed today. They learned super easy to the car and work fantastic! Got rid of an annoying message and the Dorman sensors are being returned. Thanks everyone for their input!
