Having issues taking this timing chain off to swap my cam retainer plate. There is some play in the chain, but the gear does not budge. Any ideas on what can be causing tension on this? I already loosened the rocker arms and tried it with the flywheel unlocked to no avail.
No need to respond to this. Ended up hitting the gear lightly with a rubber mallet as a last resort (should’ve been my first one) and broke it loose. All fixed.

After some miles...they be on there lol Rubber mallet gets it done. I tend to use two slim screw drivers to work the gear side to side and they always eventually pop off. The Cam thrust plate obviously keeps the cam from sliding out. Just gotta be careful to not break anything plastic like that that could slide down into that pan. Get you a few more paper towels and stuff it up in the pan. Create that buffer zone my man especially when it comes to removing that gasket maker
There is a gasket on the cam retainer plate. Will cause oil pressure problems when it goes bad
Anyone i've ever taken off the rubber has been flat as a **** lol I do deal in more higher mileage stuff. I have 5 fresh replacements on hand at any given time for jobs as i KNOW...when I take it off...if i run my finger over it and its smooth as glass...it gets tossed and a new one goes on lol. Cheap insurance. I don't know why dudes would do a cam swap and replace the oil pump with a HV one and skimp 20 bucks for a new plate. I get it if the car has to go back together ASAP...but...WHY???
