Anyone disconnect Magnasteer?
Has anyone here disconnected thier Magnasteer? If so, how did you do it, and how do you like it?
On my 99 Regal GS I disconnected, and I love the increased feedback from the road. It doesn't feel as I'm driving a old fart car anymore. The steering is now tighter than my C5's though.
On my GS it was as simple as pulling the connector to the Magnasteer, no codes, SVS light, anything. Is it as simple on the C5, and will I get a SVS light?

Here are the only 2 related DTC's I could find.
Also, doesnt magnasteer actually provide more control at higher vehicle speeds?

DTC C1241 Magnasteer Malfunction Rear/Front Mounted EBTCM/BPMV
Circuit Description
The Speed dependent Steering System (Magnasteer) incorporates its controller into the EBTCM. The EBTCM controls the amount of current supplied to the Magnasteer actuator based on input from the wheel speed sensors.
Magnasteer2 also uses inputs from the wheel speed sensors along with added input from the Steering Wheel Position Sensor.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
One or both of the Magnasteer actuator circuit wires become open or shorted.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
A malfunction DTC is stored. No ABS or Car Icon (TCS indicator) indicators are turned on but Magnasteer is disabled. ABS/TCS/Active Handling (if equipped with RPO JL4) remains functional.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
Condition for DTC is no longer present and scan tool clear DTC function is used.
Fifty ignition cycles have passed with no DTC(s) detected.

Re: Anyone disconnect Magnasteer? (Face)
I had a related question for c4c5specialist on my '00 C5 convertible. I prefer the heavier feel of the '02 Z06 steering, and wondered if it was possible to get that on the standard C5. My understanding was that Magnasteer is controlled through the ABS module, and the Z06 has a different calibration, and the modules are not interchangable.
Just like the PCM, it can be recalibrated by flashing the module with updated parameters, but you would have to find someone capable of programming it.
Otherwise, like me, you're most likely stuck.
