Default 1999 corvette electical issues

I had a service column lock message. The car would drive and steering not locked. Then started to stall at 1-2 mph. I put new battery in with 120RC. Messages went away. it stalled once after changing battery. Then ran fine. Took to a shop.Did an oil change, fuel filter change. it coded good to pass inspection. They checked the new battery terminals, cleaned and tightened. Now sometimes you go to start it and when you put the key in the lights go dim on the dash and flicker, wont start. pull key and put back in starts and runs fine. Could there be a short or a bad ground? They couldn't figure it out and told me to take to dealer that they didnt have the equipment to get into it further, Any ideas or answers for me out there?

Are you getting the " Remove key wait 10 seconds" warning in the DIC?

f you put the key in and all the lights are nice and bright on dash it will stat and run fine. If you put the key in and the lights go dim it wont start. Check engine light sometimes comes on. Pull key and put back in if lights are all good on dash it will start and no warning lights will be on. it will do normal and say welcome corvette or something and the odometer will appear and run s ,

You have all the classic symptoms that would be solved with a LCM5. 30 minute install and never worry again.

Here are the steps: How to Pull Codes:

1. Turn your key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. (This will get you into the "codes" section of the DIC.
4. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. (Have a pen and paper handy to write down the codes)

Note: Any code that ends in an "H" is a history code (something that has occurred in the past, but is not reporting as an error currently.)

5. Once the computer has finished going through all of its codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# Codes."
6. To optionally reset codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until is displays "NO CODES."
7. Press OPTIONS to go into the next module (ie, from PCM, or Powertrain Control Module, to TCS, or Traction Control System.)
8. Repeat Step 6 until you have reset all the codes in all the computer modules.

Note: Only reset the codes if you want to- it is not necessary to reset them every time you pull the codes.

9. When finished, simply take your key out of the ignition.

How to Interpret Codes
Now, once you've pulled the codes (it will usually be a letter followed by four numbers), you can go to THIS SITE to get an interpretation of what they mean.

EADING YOUR C5 Engine Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)

This procedure should be carried out any time you experience a problem with your C5. Most inexpensive store bought aftermarket code readers will ONLY read power train DTC’s. Reading the DTC’s with the C5 built in code reader will allow you to read ALL the modules in the vehicle.

The Diagnostic Display Mode is entered with the following procedure:
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the RESET button to turn off any warning messages. (i.e. door open, trunk open ect)
3) Press and hold the OPTIONS button
4) While holding OPTIONS, press FUEL button four times within a 10 -second period.

well we figured out my issues. i need a new pass lock key cylinder and there are bad wires in the steering column that caused the column lock message at first. with replacing the wiring in the column and the key cylinder then reprogramming it all will be 1200 bucks. But with paying only 10 grand for the car another 1200 bucks its stilll worth getting fixed. Went through everything else from top to bottom. car is in mint condition otherwise, So anyone else with these issues thats what we are looking at.

Pardon my unfamiliarity with the costs involved, but I'm curious why it costs 1,200 to fix this issue? Why so much?

Some codes aren't always retrievable when the engine is off. Best to pull codes while idling in the driveway. Or, you could go to a Sam's Club gas station, save money on a fillup, and have enough time before finally reaching the pump to not only pull codes, but also repair half the issues!!!!

the reprogramming cost alot. The part was like 200 bucks, then labor and then the reprogramming. Only the dealerships have the equipment to do that. But they replaced the Pass lock key cylinder and cant get it to reprogram to the key. Had GM IT on the phone. Took that new cylinder out and put another in and still wont reprogram, keeps kicking out. Now they have to go through all the wires in the steering column with a volt meter to see if any of the wires they replaced are faulting. It is a nightmare. they had to wait a week for the part and now still have my car. 9 days so far. it is summer and I want to be out ripping it up. lol. Hopefully tomorrow they finally get it figured out.

Maybe I'm missing something here. I replaced my ignition switch key cylinder and after having the tumblers replaced to match my key, the car started without the need to reprogram anything. Is the "Pass lock key cylinder" the same as the ignition switch key cylinder? Are they using your old key? I'm wondering if they are trying to change the resister value in the VATS. Not sure why they would feel the need to do that though.
