I’ve got a real nice older gentleman down the street that knocked on my door today needing some help. He was clear he doesn’t use the internet and was thinking about taking it to the dealer so Ive gotta help. He’s got a 2000 Vert and the telescopic wheel seems to have stopped working. It’ll move in and out about 2 inches. He said it’s in a bad spot for him when driving and it didn’t seem like he was enjoying the car. He said he thinks he did something with the memory buttons that caused it but I don’t think that’s the problem. The button on the column should still manually be able to adjust it. Is there anything specific you guys can point me at? It seems like it was sucked in most of the way and would extend out about 2” and stop. I’ve taken the majority of my 01 coupe apart but I’ve never messed with the column. Mines never worked since I bought the car but its in a good enough spot I’m comfortable driving. Any help would be appreciated.
likely the telescoping just needs to be recalibrated. Ignition on, then press the telescope button 8 times rapidly until it moves all the way in. Then once in at the bottom setting repeat the procedure extending it out to the forward most setting.
I've had to do this just a few times in over 20 years and it's worked every time. Just note you may need to try the procedure a few times before it starts to move in as expected. Once it's reset it typically stays working for years.
