Loud clicking/vibration at shut down; lasts 5 seconds.
I am a newbie! I just took ownership yesterday of an '02 convertible with 18,000 miles. The car has been mostly garaged; previous owner has passed away so no intel on car's history. Dealer did a safety inspection as I'm making a 2000-mile road trip to take the car home. I have wanted a red Corvette my entire life so this ride is a dream come true for me!
At shutdown, the car makes a loud clicking type of noise - almost a vibration - that lasts for about 5 seconds. It's startling and sounds bad. I can best compare it to a motor (antenna?) trying to work but is stuck. I have not used the radio and the antenna is down so I don't think that's what it is. Definitely some kind of motor working but with a clicky grinding noise. Car and noise are so new to me, I haven't been able to isolate the origin of the sound. Any advice or tips appreciated.
If a headlight gear is in bad condition or stripped and the Twilight Sentinel is on, there will be a grinding or rapid clicking from that headlight motor upon shut down. Go to Options and turn off the Twilight Sentinel and see if that helps.
Jim - I determined it is the driver side headlight "eyelid" motor. The headlight 'closes' fine. The noise seems to start once the cover is down. Will dig in and work on a solution starting with your link, Thanks! --Ann
