I'm doing a complete rebuild of my C5 diff. Everything inside is being replaced including the clutch pack in the LSD from the conventional disks to the carbon C6 disks.
I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge or thoughts wrt break in of the disks or just "give 'er"?
My first stop after leaving the garage was a nearby parking lot, where I did 10x figure-8s. These were very tight radius, nearly lock-to-lock on the steering. Hopefully that'll get the rebuilt LSD off to a good start.
For reference, that was after LSD rebuild with C6Z parts. It's been almost 3 years, and 7,400 miles since then and the LSD seems to be fine... granted with pretty much just daily driving on a stock LS6.
In general, I believe the main goal is to ensure good lubrication of all friction surfaces prior to extreme loading. Don't forget to soak the friction plates in new fluid overnight prior to installation!
