I've got the exact issue. I know it can be done without windshield replacement. I've already purchased an OEM replacement but am not at all sure how to properly install it or where to take it for installation. I've got a 2003 z06.
Here’s what I bought. Didn’t buy it from this seller but the GM part number matches. Please let me know how the install goes. I recently tore a bicep tendon and can’t drive a stick for awhile so I haven’t been able to find an instal This should help

No luck at all on finding anyone to replace this trim piece, and I don't know how. Tried a few windshield places and a collision center, and they all turned me down (after trying to sell me a new windshield). Seems like it would be a simple job with the right tool, but don't know what that tool would be...
Have not checked for the windshield weatherstrip, but my local corvette specialist bodyshop changed my halo strip with out hesitation. Is it bodyshops you’ve been checking with?
Sorry to hear that. I went to a collision shop and they referred me to a locally owned automotive glass shop. Gave the guy $100 cash and left my vette there overnight.
Next day I picked it up with the reveal molding in place covered with some 2" tape covering the molding up. He told me to put the car in the sunlight the next day and then carefully remove the tape the day after. I did, and all but about 4" was looking good. Took it back to him and he put some more urethane adhesive under the 4" section and installed more tape and told me to repeat what I did before. It's not factory new looking, but very acceptable and I'm a picky bastard... I wish you had the same results. The shop is in the Toledo, Ohio area if you happen to get close. Good luck

Although I'm not sure what a "halo strip" is, I'm referring to the trim piece on the top of the windshield. I think it's called "windshield upper reveal rubber molding" (not weatherstrip). Went to two collision centers and called two automotive glass shops and nobody was willing to do it. Have to drive a ways, but will check with vette body shops... Thanks!

Thanks! Son lives in Akron, and says he's staying in Ohio as long as he has his classic cars (C2 vette and C10 pickup) because Ohio is the best state for good repairs and reasonable prices.
