I know much about drivetrain and engine and all the other good stuff....but I have no idea about brakes. My brakes are just fine, with 22K on them, but I love the look of nice slotted rotors (and drilled, too).
I do not want to spend a million dollars just for the look and a little improvement. What should I do for brakes?? When I swap rptos, what else will I have to swap?? What rotors do you recommend (shoes, pads, etc...)?? I think the stock ones are just fine, so I am more into the brake system I have now, with a better look on the rotors. Please help!!!
My preference would be the Baer Eradispeeds and a set of the GM ceramic pads. The baer rotors look great and have a zinc wash to keep rust at a minimum. They are a simple swap with on other parts required. The GM ceramic pads are QUIET and almost dust free while still supplying good performance.

:iagree: Also, look for, or contact, a CF supporting vendor for their next group purchase on these items. I had a chance to get a heck of a deal from MTI last year, but I decided the stopping could wait:D , I wanted to go, so I opted for the MagnaCharger instead. Last week I did install the Raybestos ceramic pads on my car for the decreased dusting.
$400 a rotor with the hat. Thats seems a little outrageous to me
I will grant you that it is not a cheap conversion, but it is a more simple conversion than a " Big Brake System and much less than the $2.5-6.5K that the full systems command. If / when I do this I will be the first to tell anyone if it was $ well spent.
I've thought about this one up, down, left, right and sideways, and it always seems to be the calipers that run the cost up. I'm tempted to try some brembos (rotors only) and get some hats made from somewhere like: http://www.hoerr-racing.com/
but that will be down the line a little. I would be cuious to know if anyone has thrown some 14 inchers on their car and moved the stock calipers out a bit. I've got 18" wheels on so I think they'll fit. For stock wheels you'd probably need to stick to stock size rotors.
Yeah, I know, shoes, pads, they are the same thing, OK, I was just in a rush. We Italians are always thinking of GQ things. That is how many guys here refer to the pads as shoes, if that is what the joke is about.
Now, now, I'm new at this game myself. There are a set of brake shoes for the emergency brake. If you are going to replace the rotors, calipers, and brake pads, you will see the brake shoes when you take the rotors off. Make sure you adjust the emergency brake when replacing the rotors. Turn the adjuster out about 5 or 6 clicks at a time until you feel a slight drag on the rotor. Then do the other side. Most emergency brakes from the factory are out of adjustment. In other words, they don't hold very well.
