tapping noise after valve spring replacement c5 z06
Just recently changed valve springs to PAC1218 on my C5Z06, I torqued all rocker arms down to 22 ft lbs, but did not do it at TDC for all of them. I'm having some noise that is similar to lifter tapping but not quite as pronounced, it doesn't sound like ticks either , anybody have any insight?
Here's the procedure from the FSM: In number 1 firing position (TDC on compression stroke) torque rocker bolts
Ex 1-2-7-8 In 1-3-4-5
Turn engine 360* (1 full turn) Torque rockers
Ex 3-4-5-6 In 2-6-7-8
Bolt holes should be free of oil, use thread locker on threads (the blue stuff, not red), a dab of oil on bolt head where it touches the rocker arm bushing. Oil the rocker to pushrod contact point.

Personally, I've never gone by the procedure in the service manual on this. BUT, you must be CAREFUL!! It is possible to strip the aluminum threads if you don't have enough thread engagement. Also, you must take care torquing the trunnions down to the 22lb spec, which I do use, because you could reach the 22 lb spec, but have them slightly crooked. I.E., the trunnions aren't fully "nested" in the pedestals. The best way to ensure they are exactly where they should be is to grasp each end of the trunnion axle between your thumb and index finger. Then, with the ratchet in the other hand, start slowly tightening the rocker bolt down as you slightly twist the rocker axle to and fro. What you're trying to do is ensure the axle is centered in the pedestal radius. When it is, the tip of the rocker will also be centered exactly over the tip of the valvestem. Once that is accurately achieved, then tighten to 22lb/ft., or 264lb/inch......
