My 2000 has 98000 on the speedo. Have had it for 7 years. Bought from a dealer but have no info on the car. Runs great but shifts hard from 1 to 2. Don't know if trans fluid and filter has ever been changed. Pondering whether to do a comeplete flush or just filter and fluid change. Have heard many different opinions. Open for comments!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be the fluid/filter, start with that. (this is a job for a pro). Most guys don't recommend the power flush as it could cause more problems. Also, the car could have some sort of tune changing the shift points.

A fluid and filter change is a good idea. The power flush can stir up sludge and may even lead to leaking. As mentioned it is possible to tune the shift points. If the car is bone stock, it is highly unlikely that this was done. On the other hand, if you have an upgraded diff, then it was almost certainly done. I had that issue after I installed my supercharger. It was definitely the result of the tune. Good luck!

If you are worried about it then you have options. You can do a drain and refill which I would recommend so you can replace the filter. You can then do multiple drain an refills without taking the pan off to replace filter. Of course you need to drive a bit in-between refills This will dilute the older fluid and get more new fluid in. Or you can do a flush yourself by using the transmissions own pump so no power flush. All you need to do is first do a typical drain and refill so can swap the filter. Filler up and run it. Then get a gallon + of new fluid, put a electric pump in the gallon container and the hose in the open fill plug. Undo the top rad tranny cooler line as that is the return line and have that go into a bucket. I put a clear line on the rad fitting so i can see the fluid. Turn car on while turning on the pump so it adds fluid as the tranny line dumps it. You need to keep an eye in the gallon container and dump bucket. You can have somebody in the car shifting gears if you like for a few secs in each gear.....this is an option for you. I did mine this way...the pump I used is from harbor freight, it's like 12 bucks and works perfect. The hose on that fits perfectly in the drain hole...
