1998 C5 fuel pressure question
I don't have a specific answer to your question but know this: There is a fuel line check in the fuel line that's NOT in the fuel pump. This check valve is tucked away between the frame and the transmission and is just about impossible to get to. If you do a search on eBay for a 1997-98 fuel line check valve, you will see the fuel line that contains the check valve I am talking about. If this valve is bad then you will have to replace that entire fuel line check valve assembly as there is no way to repair the assembly and put in a new valve. I suspect you DO NOT have a leaky injector. They rarely go bad and if you had one that was leaking all the pressure in the fuel line after the initial fuel pump surge when you turn on the key, then you would certainly see smoke coming out of the exhaust when the engine finally fired. It's more than likely the check valve assembly that is connected to the fuel filter that is causing the pressure to leave the fuel rails so quickly after you turn the key to the on position. Incidentally, I have the exact same problem and I am living with it because I don't want to spend $1000 on labor and parts, just to replace that little plastic check valve.
Although that installation looks awesome, I take it that you are not able to reinstall the CORVETTE engine cover on that side of the engine now. Is that correct? Also, did the installation of the new check valve cure your starting issue? Thanks.
The slot for that new line might have to be opened up to fit. I haven't had engine covers on for the last 15 years and don't like them. As I stated in the original post, the starting problem didn't go away; whatever caused the starting problems has gotten worse and it's not a fuel delivery problem. I have to go through the throttle control system and see where that leads because now the car goes into limp mode and sounds like it's running on 4 cylinders.
I don't know if I already responded to you or not but I saw your response today and thought I would let you know that I have chosen to live with it as well. My big issue is the whine in my fuel pump after 15 to 25 miles of driving in hot weather. It's REALLY annoying.
