Thanks to all who responded to my post about my '98 being stuck in park. After removing the console (which required warming the car up and getting it out of park) I was able to diagnose the problem.
The solenoid was binding and not allowing the plunger to retract, thus leaving the car stuck in park. I removed the solenoid and plunger and the problem appears to be solved. No codes have appeared on the DIC either. Yes, I know it is a safety item and that i should purchase a new part and replace it.. someday.
Once again, thanks to all.. I am also a member of hte C5 registry and they had no clue what to do in my case...
Same thing happened to me with my 98. I was told the solenoid was not seperate, so I disconnected it altogether. The only "problem", if you want to call it that, is that you do not need to step on the brake to move the shift lever. This never bothered anybody in the past, before the NTSB got involved.
