Hi guys! Last year I bought my first Vette, It's a base model 2000 C5. with an auto tranny..I was driving tonight the trany seemed to start slipping I drove it home and by the time I got home,(probably about 10 miles) it was limping along pretty bad. The RPMs were higher than normal about 3500 at 30 MPH at times. It was hard to get the car over 30 MPH on that last mile or so. On my dash the Trans Temp High light came on. and the engine was about 250 degrees by the time I got home. It felt like it was losing power all the way home too. Fortunately I didn't have another 5-6 miles to go. So I am thinking its the transmission due to the behavior as well as the lit up HERE'S YOUR SIGN and I was wondering what kind of pricing should I expect if I pay someone to change it?
Agreed! Not easy to do without a lift, but, and this is just me, but if no lift available, if OP is going to crawl under there to check the level, he may as well drop the pan and have a look-see for metallic crap in the pan, and if that checks out, clean the pan, replace the filter, add about 5qts of ATF, put it together and try again. However, it may be too little, too late. OP-Are you aware that unless the engine is running, you'll have fluid rushing out of the inspection hole, IF the trans has the correct fluid level? This might best be done at a known good trans shop. Just ask them to drain fluid and inspect the pan for debris, and go from there. My .02....
It appears that is my situation,3rd gear was gone. $3311 to rebuild it. I hope that will last another 20 years. I missed the Metro Cruise here in GR Michigan this year. I mean I still could have gone but it wouldn't have been the same.

While the trans is out, that's a good time to do other things (that cost money!), like changing the rear sway bar or swapping the diff for a performance diff. When mine was out for a rebuild I added a Z06 rear sway bar. and had them inspect the side seals on the differential. Just a thought!
They are redoing the seals, I needed a tie rod and some other stuff roo.. I already got new tires and added LED taillights and tursignals this year. I expected there would be expenses but I wont be getting any upgrades now, Along with a couple other repairs I am already in for about 10 years worth of my allowance.. My wife might say 30 years worth ....I am eager to test it out I hope they get it done by Friday!

Our wives must be related!
Months after I bought my 2003 vert, the transmission went on strike and it cost me $5k to get it rebuilt. I went through a long dry spell of mods after that happened!
