I drained the trans fluid, then re-filled until fluid came out the fill port. Trans was level according to a level placed against the trans. I was not able to get a full 4 qts in. I drove for a few miles, did some slow L and R circles, then lifted in back up, level....let it cool down over night. I unscrewed the fill plug and had fluid run out.
Guess it is full???
I am still getting grinding noises when making a L or R turn.
The grinding sound seems to be coming from the rear and seems to be from the outside wheel during the turn. Only hear this noise when making a slow turn.
Noise to me is like diff clutch paks slipping & grabbing...but I have done nothing to the diff.
Trans shifts very nice through all gears.
I used the Amsoil Torque-Drive Synthetic Heavy-Duty Automatic Transmission fluid.
And yes, the noise has only been there since the trans fluid change.
Update and correction: had another person go with me to a parking lot to do some slow turns, 8's, etc. The noise is coming from the shifter along with a vibration, only when making a tight turn.
I will do a shifter alignment.
Did the shifter alignment, no idea if it was off or not as I did not check before I loosened all the bolts. I removed the shifter lever, greased the ball all up, re-installed and aligned. Able to easy shift into gears now with engine off and no clutch, could not do that before. Went ahead and put console back in, will drive it another day as it is 108°F right now, perhaps in the morning.
Later,
Took Corvette out for a test drive and no more noise from the shifter, but still have some noise from the diff. Will be changing the fluid as I suspect it is original.
OP, I don't want to be insulting, but the drains and fill plugs for both the transmission and differential are in the same general area of the car. Are you 100% positive that you didn't confuse the two components, when you did the drain/refill?
Grinding noises, when turning, IMHO would be emanating from the differential, not the transmission.....
1000% positive I did not mix-up the transmission with the differential.
The slight noise I have sure sounds like clutch paks to me, only hear it when making a slow tight turn.
Will be changing the diff fluid tomorrow.
