Hello, I have followed this forum for some time but have never asked a question before. I have a 2001 Z06 with 67,000 miles that seems to always have a problem, I solve one problem and another one occurs. The latest problem is one that started periodically but has now become a continuous problem. When I am driving at any speed and hit a bump the engine shuts off and the dash goes blank. It is as if the negative ground has been disconnected. Sometimes it will restart on its own and sometimes you need to turn the key to start before it will restart. A few times It has stopped and completely shut off and I had to disconnect the negative battery terminal before it would restart. I read the thread on this forum regarding the accordion cover in the doors and never found any bad connectors there. I have checked for codes and it is not throwing a code. Does anyone know where to start looking to solve this? Thank you.
With no codes this will be tough to find, have you checked the negative battery cable where it attaches to engine block
The only other advice is to check the positive battery connections in the engine fuse block and check all your grounds.
mmartinez thanks for the response, I plan to check the negative battery cable where it attaches to engine block when I can get it on a friends lift. I never considered the engine fuse block, but I have checked and cleaned all the ground connections I could get to based on a previous problem that turned out to be the ignition switch. Trouble shot for over a year after I had replaced the ignition switch, and it turned out to be a bad replacement ignition switch out of a GM box. I now know how to bench test an ignition switch before I install it.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, sometimes we are our own worst enemy. I started trouble shooting by shaking the positive and negative cables and discovered the positive connection by the fuse block was loose. Tightened it up and everything is back to normal, I remember taking it loose when I was trouble shooting the ignition switch problem and must have only finger tightened.
