Are you in an emission county? Or are you just trying to kill the smell of a cam overlap?

If you have to pass a visual inspection, you will have to find a way to cut the OEM cats out of the stock H-pipe and weld them into your X-pipe. I am having that same dilemma. If you don't have a visual, you can install aftermarket cats.

Here is a thread I have been reading up on, maybe it will have some helpful information for you as well.

You can gut the cats if you only need to visually pass. I did this around 20 years ago. They're on my storage bench now, as I upgraded to a 3" Xpipe years ago.......

you only need to pass a visual inspection - they don't care if your engine light is on or codes set, just that things are there (and then only if they want to crawl under the car... there are several high flow cats that you can go with from 100-several hundred... the cheaper ones probably cost little or no HP unless you're a long way from stock. In terms of "bolting up" without any welding or fitting by you or a shop, that depends on the headers, etc... I always fit and weld mine...
