2001 C5 P1870 Code
I'm new here and just purchased a 2001 C5 automatic trans Convertible with 37560 Miles today.
I test drove it for about 20 minutes and everything seemed fine. I purchased it from a dealer AS IS, no warranty.
I drove t home on the interstate for about 30 minutes on the interstate. When I got off the interstate, and got into traffic downtown, I noticed a hard shift from 1st to second then everything was smooth.I reached home, and my wife wanted a ride so we went on a mountain two lane rd running about 60. After about 30 minutes, the check engine light came on
Again, I noticed the hard shift from 1st to 2nd, but was smooth after that. I checked the code when I got home and it was P1870. What all do I need to check, and what is normal trans temp in 90 Deg weather? I'm new at this, I had a 66 Vette in 1976, but this is the only second one I've had,and haven't driven one since 1976.Will it damage the Trans to drive with this code and hard shift? Thanks again for any help!
Rob
I took some pictures of the pages related to that code from my 2000 service manual, that should get you started.
The first thing I would check is the fluid level. I don't know if those transmissions have a dipstick, you may need to get it up in the air to even check it. But a slipping transmission could be the result of low fluid.
