Hello all,
I have an 03 Z-06. I have been having some issues with my shifter and shifting. The shifter problem is that to get into 1st gear I have to go up and to the right to get into 1st gear. Reverse takes a lot of force, but sometimes it will go into gear normally. Lately the car will make a scrapping noise upon accelerating from a stop. I tried to take off in second, but got the same sound. I can't see a mark on the clutch reservoir to determine if the fluid is low. The car has 184k miles, a McLeod RXT clutch kit, and has a cam kit to make 550hp and torque. I'm curious about if my original flywheel, and linkage could be the cause of my problems. Any advice would be appreciated.
I found another Z owner with the exact problem. They suggested the pilot bearing. I just ordered it and will know by this weekend. I will post the cure after I get sideways when I get the car back. Thanks for your help. I intend to replace the shifter at a later date.

Just out of curiosity, do you realize how much work is involved in changing the pilot bearing in a C-5?? Don't get me wrong, it might be that, but I would think that checking the shifter alignment would be a hell of a lot easier, and therefore the thing to try first.....

have you gotten a quote to change the pilot bearing? it requires dropping the drivetrain to get to it... and you're not even sure that's the problem. It could be something much simpler...
I realize the amount of work, however I had planned on replacing the rear main seal and both clutch cylinders before a late October before a road trip. So this expense was on my list of things to get done proactively. I wanted to replace the shifter as well, but with dental appointments the budget is not up to it. Would you know if a c6 Z-06 shifter will work in my c5 z?
A friend of mine is a great mechanic, he fixes my cars right the first time, and I get a friend discount. He is much better than the 2 dealerships that I have had more than 1 problems with.
