How to program chipped key to new/different gauge cluster
I had a used gauge cluster installed in my 2002 coupe at a dealership. They are having issues with programming the key to the new cluster. They are saying the program won't take. Does anyone know what might be the issue? I didn't know the keys were programmed to the cluster. This is for the key and not the fob. The car will not start according to them, without the programming.
There is no programing from the key to the gauge cluster, the C5 key has a resistor pellet used for the anti theft system. Maybe they disconnected the wires that connect the Ignition switch to the BCM. There is a BCM relearn procedure when a BCM is replaced or the Ignition switch is replaced with a different resistor chip on the new key, there are 15 different resistor values. Hope this helps
I am trying to figure out what they did. I had an issue with the DIC panel being pushed in. That is why I got another cluster. They swapped out the new/used cluster for my old one. I had problems with the key fobs not working before the swap. I was hoping I could train when I had the changed cluster in. The car was running and driving before the swap. They say that they couldn't get the key to program to the cluster, which made no sense. They also say that it will not start now. It was fine as far as running goes before they got it. It should have been a simple swap. The key is the old key so there should have been no need to program anything. I am thinking they may have messed up my BCM.
The best advise I can offer you is to find a reputable auto shop that specializes in corvette repairs. When you say that the car will not start does the engine crank over but fails to fire up, or does it not crank over at all. I would check the two wires that connect to the very front part of the Ignition switch those wires connect to contacts that press against the keys resistor pellet, if those wires are disconnected or damaged the car will not crank over at all.
I went down to the dealership again today. I talked to a different service rep. He went and checked and found out my car would start and run, but the key fobs were not training to the car. The rep yesterday said it would not start due to the chip keys not programming. I hate when dealerships have stupid people working as reps.. I could have picked up my car. It is a little over 30 miles away from my house. Now I get to wait till Tuesday. It is getting hard to find good mechanics. I could have swapped the cluster, but my carport gets kind of hot when it's over 100 out. I will train the fobs myself. Thanks for your help.
I ended up replacing the tpms/key fob receiver in the hatch area. Reprogrammed fobs and all is good. It is getting difficult to find good mechanics. The guys at the dealership were clueless on how the whole keyless entry system works.
