2003 Z06 - When I start the car, a high pitch ringing noise slowly ramps up around the gauge cluster and steering column. It can be heard in the youtube video below
It seems like it has gotten louder in recent weeks. The odd thing about it ... the noise stops when I turn on the A/C. I don't THINK it's related to the A/C, but I wonder if activating the A/C causes a voltage drop that affects it (just a wild *** guess on my part). Also, a few months ago I cleaned up the grounds in the engine bay, optima red top battery.
This didn't bother me for a while, but now it's like a torture device any time I drive the car. Please help restore my sanity. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
This ringing noise really takes away from the enjoyment of driving the car. Has anyone ever heard this before? I'm looking into the DC/AC converter suggested above
I don't see many replies to your post, again the DC/AC converter resides inside the gauge cluster and supplies high frequency ac voltage to power two black light bulbs for the Florescent painted gauges.

Thanks again. Do you have any recommendation for how to resolve the problem? I haven't been able to find any information about replacement of the converter. Does it make sense that activating the air conditioning could cause a voltage drop that makes the noise go away?
It makes sense that turning on the ac will cause a voltage drop and make the noise go away. This is of course my best guess that's its the convertor, but it's a noise that is being generated electrically and not mechanically. I have done a search and found out that the converter is no longer available, and some people have simply replaced the gauge cluster when other problems with the gauge cluster have been encountered.
A thought occurred to me, does that noise happen all the time, the converter is only powered when the running lights or headlights are on, if that noise is present with no lights on then it's probably not the converter.

I check this out when I get home. Typically, after starting the car in broad daylight, the ringing noise slowly ramps up over the course of 10 seconds. I'll see if diming the lights or turning them off entirely contributes to the noise
