I purchased my 97 used. I don't know if the previous owner had the CLB installed. :(
I've read on a board, maybe this one, that a column lock may be proceeded by the "Security" indicator on the dash coming on just before the column locks up. :skep:
Two questions - 1. Is there an easy way to check to see if the CLB has been installed?
2. My security indicator has been comming on more offten then it use to, should I be worried? This started after a case of severe wheel hop at the WCCC. :mad
If the column lock was done under recall just contact your local Chevy dealer with your VIN and they should be able to tell you if had been done.
If it hasn't your should have it done. There have been over 300 reported incidents of the column lock happening while driving.
regarding the security light...I would check the codes and see what's been thrown.
To check the codes: cycle the key to on, wait for the message to clear, then hold the options button down and hit the fuel button 4 times. The DIC will go into code diagnostics mode and start reporting codes. don't worry about them flashing by you can scroll up/down with the other buttons when it's done. And yes, holding in reset will erase the code you are on or all of them in the group if you are on the group list.
