Well, it is done. Took me about an hour. Very, very easy mod to do on your own, even if you don't know what you are doing (assuming you can follow the step-by-step directions) Thunder7, go for it!
I just can't figure out how you guys with all these super mods can get any kind of traction! My 02 Coupe has these mods: 3.42 gears (it's an automatic), Ed Wright Programming, and the Blackwing. That's it -- nothing else! And traction is already a significant issue. The thing just flat out hauls butt and burns tires! I'm through modding -- I just don't need it any faster than this!!
Thank you to the author of the instructions -- jwight and Magnetic 1
Thanks SteveL2, RWhite, C5StockSwap, and FYNL4 for the helpful tips!
With your rear end gears and initial mods (mod. sickness is incurable, BTW!), traction around town is at best limited to normal accelerator pedal pressure until you get up in the rpm's and even then, you may break loose.
Most of the guys at the strip end up using Drag Radials on the rears. If you drag race the car and want equivalent times others are getting with your mods, DR’s or better is needed.

Re: Blackwing Amateur Install Complete! (daesoph)
After our most current mod we all say that's all, until the next "got-to-have" thing comes along. You are hooked - no sense denying it. Congrats on the Blackwing - I certainly enjoy mine on the car.
Congrats. I'm afraid I'll have to join the others on your comment about not doing any more mods............... :lolg: I've said the same thing, and now I'm considering taking a deep plunge. Go figure.
Congrats, that's a great mod! But please don't insult us by saying you're done modding. Now that you've done this yourself, you'll be thinking what else you can do to get another 10 hp. You've been bitten by the mod bug and there is no known cure.
And traction is already a significant issue. The thing just flat out hauls butt and burns tires!
I agree, I added the Blackwing yesterday. Had a great experience by the way, I'm mechanically challenged, but through this forum, I met FDXPILOT who generously offered to do it with me. (Beautiful EB coupe !!)
After one day of driving, it is noticably quicker, and very easy to break traction with less than full throttle. I'm kinda looking forward to blowing through the EMT runflats and will then get another brand of runflats with better traction (any suggestions here ?).
The way I'm going, the EMTs are not long for this world anyways. :D

The rear gear upgrade alone nets you an approximate 8.6% increase in RWTQ over the 3.15. That's where the vast majority of your gain is.
Yes indeed! I'm probably the only guy alive that was willing to spend $2000 on gears, labor, and reprogramming before I'd spend $250 on the Blackwing...
