you still have a factory exhaust ???
seriously, good luck on getting Chevy to do anything after warranty ends. May I suggest a Corsa, Borla, GHL, or PRT to replace ??
The muffler flange on my 98 coupe also failed about a year ago. Muffler shop re-welded it for $10.
While he's fixing the broken weld, make sure you have the guy tack the other flange in place, as insurance
Chevy has a known problem with the factory exhaust. The welds on this material are difficult and they have had some poor welds. A club member had his exhaust drop off while on the highway. GM took care of it but only after a hassle. He did some research and learned this is a common problem. The welds can fail at any time either at low mileage or in later years. Good luck with yours. One more reason to put a quality aftermarket system on!
We discovered that the flanges on our 98 had been re-welded at some point. There was so much build up that 3vettesathome had to take a sawzall and cut the bolts. It was impossible to get a socket on the bolt heads. Anyone who is going to replace their system should check the flanges first. If they have been worked on it would pay to have a muffler shop cut the bolts off.
I have broken the flanges on both sides of mine as well. Each time I took it to the local muffler shop and within 45 mins. and about $25 I was on the road again. No need to worry yourself by talking to GM. The $25 that you spend is worth avoiding the stress of the GM hassle......
