Default Has anyone been disappointed enough to remove their headers?

I am looking at purchasing a set of FLP LT headers in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone has put on a set of headers (any kind) and been so disappointed with the performance that they switched back to stock?

I couldn't find any postings discussing this, so I thought I would just ask...

The only headers i ever removed/replaced on an LS1 were JBA shorties, the made no more power then the stock 2K manifolds. Other then that I dont think you will be disappointed

I was a little nervous about fitment and new "odd" noise issues that were being discussed right when I put mine on.

I would do it again in a minute. My tech said they went on perfect, everything lined up right. And they do look beautiful ( if you lift the car to see them)!

I do not hear any thing that I don't like!

With all the work that goes into installing them it would be hard to switch back. Short Headers on a new C5 wont do you any good. IF you are wanting to install headers, get the longtube type. If you are planning Major HP mods in the future, be sure to purchase the correct headers for your future application. :)

The shorties do very little, but the long tubes do wake it up...I have heard of some quality problems a couple years ago, but nothing since..A very good mod

Although I don't see much posted about the Breathless Performance step headers, I love mine. They give a balanced torque curve with H/C and S/C too. They are very pretty to look at as well. You CANNOT go wrong with LT headers--do the mod.

Can you just put in a new after market H/C without putting a new long tube header? They are about the same price so I would love to go for H/C to gain real hp's.

Heads ported for larger exhaust outlets. It is wise to do the headers with the heads. :)

Buckmaster, I'm possibly considering a S/C in the future, but have not made the final decision. Beyond that, nothing has struck my fancy. I'm trying to keep my mods within the realm of what I can install myself for now.

I'm dying to put on a set of LT headers, but most of the guys that I hang out with locally have had nothing but bad luck with headers. Granted, these are all non-Corvette guys (most have a 94-96 Impala SS w/LT1) that have all gone with short tube headers.

Since I have seen so many posts about how most everyone here on the forum that has LT headers and loves them, I just wanted to double check.

I really appreciate all the responses! :steering:

:yesnod: I yanked the TPIS headers (and Random hi-flo cat system) off my car and went to Belangers (and stock cats). Much better across the board.

Best price new on the TPIS that I found was $850 + $400 installation = $1250. I went with the FLP's for $1480 shipped to my door and will install them myself since they are a full bolt up system. Problem with the TPIS is they require cutting and welding (which I can't do myself), and going back to stock is tougher down the road if you want to sell the car since your intermediate pipe has been cut. This is the ONLY reason I chose FLP's over TPIS.....not based on performance..........

Right now they are on back order, should be here in a couple of weeks...

Also remember the FLP system is not just a pair of headers. You also get 2 cats, 2 off road pipes, the X-pipe, and some high quality clamps. It's a complete well-designed system from the heads to the rear axle. Add the prices of all those components up, add it to the TPIS or other LT offerings, and see what your total is. Then factor in the intangibles, like ease of installation, and ability to swap out the cats and ORP's in 20 mins whenever you want and as often as you'd like.

IMO they are worth it.

Thanks for all the feedback - I feel much better about my decision now.

With any luck I'll have my headers in another month or two!

MRC,
I spoke to the folks at LPE to sign up for their SC package. They say there isn't any difference between the stock and headers  but they put the cars on the dyno so they should know (I guess)

Dr. Dan the LPE Magnusson S/C set up is less receptive in hp gains with h/c mods than the ATIs done elsewhere, but long tube headers will help any car s/c or not. Give the Breathless Performance ones a try--the balanced tourque curve will work well with all s/c, but especially one that makes so much torque low in the rpm curve as the magnusson
