Default Learned Something About Ordering Stuff (Tires)

I've been looking for tires for a while. I finally decided on Nitto NT555R2 (thanks johnyhardcore) for rear and G2's in front. I call my favorite very large, nationally known vendor mid October. They tell me the R2's are back ordered but should ship October 24th. Geat! I'm in. Place order.

October 24th comes and goes. No tire shipping notification. I reach out to my vendor. They supposedly reach out to Nitto and are told at least 90 days out

I stew on this for a couple days and decide to call Nitto myself. The very nice customer service agent checks on my tire and says "not back ordered, we've got a bunch".

I call my vendor back and tell them Nitto has a bunch of them. All of the sudden the term "drop shipping" comes up. "Oh, we can have them drop shipped to you directly from Nitto". So tires should be here within a week.

I just figured I'd share my experience with back ordered stuff. Call manufacturer yourself. If they have what you want ask your vendor about drop shipping from manufacturer directly to you. Sorry to waste your time if everybody knew this but me...

The most common reason is they don't sell directly to the public.

If your most valuable skill is manufacturing it's pretty typical for you to offload the distribution and customer service to a distributor network. This lets you concentrate more on what you do best while your distributors deal more with sales, marketing, customer service, etc.

Why not just go to tire rack? They seem to have them in stock. I ordered some tires for my daily yesterday around 3pm. Had them today around 1pm. Bing bang boom done. And they were recently manufactured back in may of this year.

You must have ordered a different size. I just looked and it still says 'Out of Stock" for the Nitto NT555RII in a 305 35 18.
