I believe mine has a slight leak. The threads are fine. What brand do you recommend?
Thanks!
A rare earth magnetic drain plug. IIRC, I got mine at Ecklers about 10 years ago. Magnet is powerful enough that it can pick up a large screwdriver......
First make sure the gasket or sealing O-ring under the flange head of the drain plug is in place or not cracked or damaged. If needed replace the oil pan drain plug. If it still leaks, then hopefully its not damaged treads in the pan (aluminum) vs the oil pan drain plug (steel). You can try a couple wraps of Teflon tape on the oil pan drain plug threads to see if that works as a temporary fix. If the oil pan treads are damage, then it may need to be drilled and tapped for a larger size drain plug. Not sure if a Helicoil would work in this application due to the need to repeatedly removing the drain plug for normal oil changes.

A properly installed helicoil will never back out. They are a one way thread....

That gasket under the head of the drain bolt is replaceable.
I’m pretty sure the threads are fine on both the bolt and the pan are fine. Autozone and Oreillys seem to only carry the Dorman brand. Rock Auto has the GM but you have to buy 10 of them. I really don’t need 10. LOL. Any one that fits fine?

I bought a bunch of the Dorman brand. I think I got them on Amazon - bought about 20 - can't remember why. Maybe it was to get "free" shipping.
What's wrong with Dorman at Autozone or OReilly's?
Nothing as far as I know. Just asking if those are ok.
Oh. I certainly presume so.
I lied about what I bought - they are Fel-Pro 70820, and I bought 10. $2.64 each, and everybody else has them, too, including Advance Auto and O'Reilly's. Or order some from Amazon next time you buy a bag of "organic" kitty litter or "green" doggy biscuits.
Or you can go to the Chevy dealer (or probably any GM dealer) and buy a few OEM. I did that years ago, but I swear they charged me something like $5 each. Can't remember for sure, though.

Dorman 65372, available at Summit and on Amazon, is a good-value magnetic drain plug.
Probably also available at auto-parts stores that stock Dorman.
Use a torque wrench when you tighten it. I do. Factory spec = 25 N-m [18 lb-ft]. This is a light torque for an M12-thread fastener, but with the resilient seal it is OK. If you were to switch to a plug with an aluminum crush washer, the torque would be higher.
