Greetings to all. I recently inherited my dad's 04 c5 and while traveling from Michigan to Tennessee it started giving me misfires and hesitation when applying the gas, so much so I had to pull off the road multiple times. Waited a few minutes and it started and drove fine and I made it to TN with a few of those mishaps. Finally today it stalled out at an intersection and wouldn't start. Getting power just fine with a brand new battery and clean terminals. Brand new tank of premium with seafoam added in. Car has just over 30k and was sitting for about a year with stabilizer and getting started once a month or more. Kept on battery tender.
Checked all the wires and coil packs and didn't see anything out of place. Got a fuel pressure test kit and tested 0psi on the fuel rail seeming to confirm that the fuel pump is bad. Weird thing is my mechanic friend and myself smelled an electrical smell when it had an issue prior to leaving Michigan, so I am wondering if there could be a wire that possibly failed/broke connection somewhere allowing the pump to not send pressure to the rail? I guess I dont want to pay for the parts and labor of replacing the pump if there could be another issue. Where im at in Tennessee doesn't seem to have many people that are knowledgeable with these cars. Thanks and sorry for the long read.
Check the fuel pump fuse. If fuse is OK move on
You can also jumper the fuse terminals to manually activate the pump KOEO. If pump doesn't turn on, then check power wire at the pump.
Being an 04 your pump is at the top of the tank and tricky to get to. Also means you are dropping the torque tube and tanks to replace it.
I did check the fuse and it was good, used another spare fuse to double check and no change. Don't think I can get to the wire at present with everything in the way and most of my useful tools/jacks in Florida
