I don't know if anyone has done this, but I have seen a few crate engines with a single serpentine belt system. I am interested in that type of system as then it would be easier to replace the belt when necessary, I believe. Does anyone have any information on what is needed for the conversion and where to source the necessary parts? Thanks in advance and cheers!!!
It is just a personal preference for future mods I have in store for her.
Just be aware that if you go to a single belt, you are likely to hear an increase in noise when your a/c compressor is running. One of Delphi’s recommendations for minimizing a/c noise/vibration/harshness to GM and other manufacturers who were using variable displacement (V7 with the C5) was to use a dedicated drive belt for the compressor.
there are a lot of options out there for LS motors, Jegs, Billet specialites, Wegner, March..... from $500 to Thousands. They all mount the accessories as one
You're going to drive all the accessories with a 4-rib belt to match the AC compressor pulley instead of the WP, alternator and PS using a 6-rib pulley.
@feeder82 Thanks feeder82 I knew about March which is the guy i was speaking with on my options. And as far as the different rib size for the accessories, March has the appropo pullies and such to accommodate the fit. The one thing that is kind of concerning is that i may need to change to a different AC compressor to make it all work. Other than that, it appears to be a plug and play option. I just think it looks cleaner and as far as it breaks on the road, I just will carry a couple of extra belts.
To change it just so you can change one belt is not wortht the time or money,
Now if you have future plans then you should check to see what those mods require and what drive system they recommend. Some of these systems only work on specific set ups. Often things like Superchargers etc will have recommended systems.
I see many get into pulley systems at work and often create more issues than solve. Corvettes in general are often a tough fit as they often have different water pumps and other off set items.
I would get all you plan to do and present it to march and then ask for their recommendation.
Future plans are to install an A&A so I will wait to speak with them about the serpentine belt change I would like. From what I can tell, that may be the way to go.
