I have it installed and with this very cold weather the temp never gets up to 172* unless idiling at a stop light, but while moving it is in the 156* range.
I would think the thermo should stay closed untill the block heated up to 172* then adjust open and close to keep that temp. Anyone with the same situtation? and the heater is not hot either,Maybe change back to the original for the rest of the winter? Thanks, Rob. :)
There have been problems with those thermostats. I had two which did the same exact thing. What's worse is the retailer claiming there "is nothing wrong" with them, and charging me to take them back! :mad
I swithced to a Hypertech 160 and it works as it should. When it's cold, she runs at 170-180, when hot outside, she's at 175 to 185.

:iagree: My 160* Hypertech runs the exact same ranges.....this is the second one I've installed on as many C5's with the same results.....
I am running a 160 deg thermo, Becool radiator... because my car has a Super charger and is custom tuned to run in the lower heat ranges. If you dont have any special application on your car, then the OEM Thermo is good to use without having to replace it. :yesnod:
I have one that may be installed soon by ARE with other mods. I wonder if I should install it at all  I say that because I am addingina BeColl radiator too so I am wondering if that will be enough? Maybe I should stay with the stock T-stat and if the car gets too hot then put it in later.
If you're putting in the becool radiator, stay with the stock thermo. You'd be way too cool with the 160 stat, especially seeing where you're at.
Thanks guys for your help, i guess i am going to put the stock back in cause there a lot of winter left to go and it really takes some time to get the heater going. BTW the thermo i have is not a Hypertech brand i actually dont know who made it but i got it a while back from Vinci-Hi Perf Co.( Not bashing them either)
Does the Hypertech piece come as a whole housing just like the stock?? :) Rob.
No i didnt do anything to the fans, dont have the programmer either.
Are you saying the fans are coming on? I dont hear them, and if im thinking right they wouldnt come on cause the temp isnt getting high enough anyway, Maybe i just have a bad stat? Thanks chris any ideas are appreciated :)
-you can mod a stock c5 thermostat to any temp you want. (150-160-170-180-190-200) I'm going to mod mine soon as it warms up enough to work outside. People from my car club have written the instructions up. email or 'im' me if you want them.
Hey Rob, I am wondering if the thermostat is stuck open.. If you get a chance to stop by I can take a look at it or try a 178 and see if we can get some heat back :seeya
What is the STOCK thermo rated at? at what temps does it normally operate at?
I have a H/C package, and been thinking about changing my stock thermo as well. I have a stock rad as well. I live in the Toronto area, and it gets cold here in the winter, and very humid/muggy/hot in the summers. Temperature-wise, this area experiences extremes in all season.
