Default CAM Replacement Info. !!

From the LS1 web cite:

The LS1 is the most camshaft installer-friendly engine around, due to GM's innovative lifter retainer feature that does not require the removal of the intake manifold to swap the cam. Simply remove the pushrods and spin the crank around, and a plastic retainer will hold the lifters up off the cam lobes. They are pushed back down when the rockers and push rods are installed. As always, most cam companies take an oath of silence when it comes to bump-stick specifications, only offering lift, duration, and LSA numbers. Using a cam that is ground on a 114 LSA will be acceptable to the stock calibration and will gain approximately 65 rear wheel horsepower on an engine with a free flowing intake and exhaust system. LSA values of 112 degrees or lower will require substantial reworking of the PCM. Crane has released bolt-on 1.8 ratio rockers to replace the stock 1.7 units, although we must give GM some credit here, in that the LS1 stock rocker is probably the nicest engine component they've ever produced.

Nice to know this! Now, if only the radiator did not need to be removed for installation, this would indeed be easy! :p:

You must be very trusting in the plastic retainer, but to not get the dredded ker-plunk of the lifter into the oil pan please try the pen magnet trick to keep the lifter in place. oh yea do a search to find the info.

No offsense, but removing the radiator will be one of the easiest parts of a cam swap on a C5. Not only that, but the plastic retainers aren't to be trusted, you need to use magnets OR you need to remove the heads and remove lifters to be safe. Not sure why that paragraph even mentions the intake manifold, even if you did remove it you wouldnt be able to see lifters under there. Sounds like pretty whacked out info to me.

Not stepping on toes JMX but I would think removing the rack would be for most people. You should also have a way to remove the freon safely. You also need a good puller to remove the balancer.. :seeya
