If I use the right turn signal or flashers, only the inner right side tail light flashes. The left side works fine.
how would I troubleshoot this?
the only thing that has been recently changed was that I put in an led side marker bulb on both sides. I have no idea if this issue was there before the change.
Are the tail lights connected (wired) somehow to the side marker light?
I have led bulbs in the other side markers, the signal lights up front, headlights, fog lights, interior. I have not changed the tail light or backup lights yet but the bulbs are on order.
incidentally that side marker light on the right side if you have a power antenna is a real b____ to get to. My arm got all scratched up.
Try swapping out the bulbs and see if the issue follows the bulb. I had led side markers on my C7 that would interfere with the TPMS system but not the tail or front lights
Not mentioned, but is this with a hyper-flash harness installed? I would assume so if you have switched out the front turn signals.
I put the hyper-flash harness in when I did switchback LEDs up front. After that I did LED fog bulbs to match the white of the switch backs. Headlights are still stock.
Later on, I got laser side markers and the tails weren't affected. A couple of months later I got the halo LED tails and laser center brake light - but at no time did mine act up.
Best thing to do is undo the last thing you did to narrow down the culprit...... good luck.
LED tail lights can cause some very strange problems. When I tried them, the DIC would dim when the brake pedal was pressed. There was some other weirdness too. I went back to OEM bulbs in the back. My front markers and DRLs are LED and work great (with hyperflash harness) so, go figure. Try swapping the marker bulbs back to OEM in pairs and see what happens.
The LEDs can cause amazingly strange issues if they are reverse polarity. I experienced this first hand with LED tails. Took me about 10 hours and over $400 in new parts replaced before finding the issue was a single LED tail was backwards, and it lit up!

So I have to check each bulb throughout the car to see if it’s backwards??? Geez.

I never noticed (since I cannot see the rear of the car from the drivers seat) but one taillight was lighting up, but not correctly, I have the Vette Lights tails and front markers. I rarely drive the vette at night (and had not driven it much at all after install of the LEDs) but the first time I did was when I realized I had a problem, and it snowballed from there. My dash lights would blink with the turn signals, brake applied with car off caused the security chime and light, and other issues. I assumed I had a bad emergency flasher, when that replacement did not take care of the problem, I assumed it was a bad multifunction stalk, replaced it as well and still persisted. During the testing of the new stalk, I happened to notice the taillight being different from the others. Reversed the connector and like magic, the problems went away.
I am not saying you have the same issue, but I am explaining that these LEDs can cause very odd things when installed improperly, and it is real easy to reverse a plug, since the LEDs are not marked for polarity. I would start looking at the marker on the side with the issue. Of course, you could also have any number of other issues, like wiring to the tails for example, since I assume to went through the taillight opening to install the marker.
I read somewhere that LED headlights had to purposely be plugged in backwards, meaning not using the locking connector. I did not do that, but suffice to say, this is strange. What if I change one of them around and it solves my issue? I also considered that if I do the relay idea someone else posted to solve the pop up headlight issue, that this will solve the issue I have now. We shall see.
oh and one more thing. If you have a power antenna and you need access to the right side rear marker light, take off the right rear tire and remove the inner wheel well. Way easier access than via the tail light. And a lot easier on your arm. I got so scratched up and bruised from reaching in there...
On another thread a bunch of us were talking about LED headlights and someone posted an idea where you add a relay in order to fix a problem where the headlights don't go down. I did this. One of the headlights now does not light up. But the tail lights now flash as bright as they should, at least with the hazards on. So the thing I started this thread about is now gone. Well sort of. It is now acting like I never installed my hyperflash harness. So clearly I have more troubleshooting to do. Starting with checking some of the bulbs and reinstalling them backwards from how they are installed now. I even saw someone suggest purposely plugging headlights in backwards.
