Let me start w/ I know I’m an idiot, carelessly tried to jump my c5 w/ portable jumper and like a dope hooked Pos to neg. Alarm went off and then nothing, thought I fried battery so I got a new one, still nothing, I just disconnected it. Any idea what I could have done? TIA,Fred
What brand portable jump box did you use? Most newer ones, even if hooked up incorrectly, there should be no damage to your battery as they know when they are hooked up incorrectly and won't send juice down the wire. Alarm on the car went off? DId you put the portable jump box in "Jump" mode? Most portable jump boxes require you to manipulate the device to get it into Jump or boost mode. there is usually a button to hit or some you have to hold 2 buttons down for 3 seconds etc. If the portable jump box is not put into boost mode, they won't work.
Welcome? The power distribution is fairly simple, the positive battery terminal is connected to the starter, and to the engine fusebox and interior fuse box. The negative is connected to the engine block. As previously suggested, I would check all fuses, and it's possible to have shorted the alternator, I would suggest removing it and having it tested at your local auto parts store.
Are you proficient with DVM? You will have to measure across the battery terminals and verify that you have 12.5 volts. While reverse polarity should not have opened any fuses, you may have relays that failed.
Few electronic components have adequate reverse polarity protection. Literally every electronic device in the vehicle should be considered suspect. If you have no power distribution, by all means check the fuses ... that's easy. And, after you find all of the fuses to be OK, move on to the engine compartment fuse box and the BCM with your wiring diagram, DVOM and test light and start checking each circuit, one by one. There aren't any short cuts.
I have the same problem no power and yes I’ve checked all the obvious. Please don’t don’t comment if you don’t understand no power, power going to fuse box’s but no power power at all no lights no power. C5 2002

Better yet...please don't post an issue looking for help if you don't understand "no power" can mean a bunch of different things. And don't be lazy with the details nor snide when you're the one with a dead car that needs help.
