My 2002 has a fuel gage that again goes to 0, although tank is full. Had this problem once in past and switched to shell high octane and techtron fuel system cleaner additive which has worked for years. Any thoughts on a repair that doesn't include replacement?
There are a couple of threads about guys who have taken the sender out and cleaned the contacts and that fixed their issue. The one good thing, it is a much easier job on the 02 to work on than the 03/04. Those parts are gonna be tough to find (new). Most places are out of them and obviously GM has discontinued them.
You should have a code when this happens, it will tell you which sender is at fault. You can then remove the faulty sender and clean it, otherwise add some more Techron until it hopefully restores fuel sender.
You have probably one or more of these codes.
These codes are SET depending on how the voltage signals from each levelsensor behave when you consuming fuel.
The right right sender drops voltage when when fuel level decrease until it's empty and then the left sender decrease the voltages when fuel level decrease .
If these voltages levels not behave correct the DTC code set and the level indicator drops to zero level as a warning.
Blocked fuel ine between both tanks could cause a DTC indicating a faulty level sender . I recommend viewing the sensor voltages on a Tech2 or similar scanner to observe whats's happening instead of guessing .
If the siphron line is clogged is will not help to replace the level sender.
