Grounding point for Interior Lighting/Rear View mirro
This weekend I wanted to wire in my radar detector, but I've known for a while now that my rear view mirror fuse has been out since I bought the car December '22. I believe that is fuse #2 in the footwell. Well, yesterday I got in and replaced it only for it to blow again. Now I thought I'd hit the forums and try to clean off the associated ground and try again. I will say, I don't know much about electronics and only want to check grounds because I know people talk about how they get corroded often on this forum.
This is the car end of the ground. I should've taken a better picture but it was fairly clean
Here is the bolt thingy, alsy clean
Here is one side of the plastic connector thingy
Here's the other side
Heres the part it connects into, also fairly clean
I've got class tomorrow so I'm going to clean it off a lil and use some silicon grease and put it together, and then drop in a new fuse and hope it doesn't blow. If it does, and I'll come back and reply to this post after I put it back together, what else could it be?
Haha, funnily enough, my back up light is faulty as well. I replaced the switch thinking it was the problem, but that didn't fix it. Either way, my fuse would blow before and after I replaced it. I need to investigate why my reverse lights don't work next.
I think that it is important to clarify that the underhood fuse #2 is involved in the backup light circuit and this circuit also has a signal line to the electrochormatic mirror.
Interior fuse #21 powers the electromatic mirror.
If, instead, you have a regular manual mirror, interior fuse #2 powers the courtesy lamps in the mirror, the visor courtesy lamps and the underhood lamp.
There is no backup light signal to the manual mirror.
I'd be happy to post the appropriate diagram if you need it. Just let us know which mirror you have and the model year of your car.
