Can the rear spring mounting brackets be removed or will the spring jump out?
I'd like to remove one of the factory brackets but don't want to disturb the spring. Can I just remove the two bolts or do I need to clamp the spring? Am I better off with the suspension at droop or compressed?
I'm guessing the bracket can be removed and suspension loaded is better.
You're better off at full droop on the rear. I don't see why it would be an issue removing a bracket at full droop, but what are you trying to accomplish?
Springs are EXTRAORDINARILY dangerous! DO NOT "F" with them if you are not 1000% sure that you know what you are doing! They can do severe property damage and / or KILL you!!!
- This has been a public service announcement.
BTW - During the development of the C5, the engineers were positively **** retentive about minimizing weight, but also the number of parts required to assemble the car. There is absolutely nothing on this car that is not absolutely essential to its intended functionality.
I know the rear is a lot easier than the front when I did both.
Raise the rear high enough fully unloaded, then use a floor jack to support the spring
This was before I got my quickjacks
