so long story short, my 99 corvettes ls1 is blown and the block/most of the internals are not usable or salvageable. my original plan was going h/c/i centri on the ls1, but that’s done to death on vettes, so im starting to look into going with a 5.3 swap and turboing it down the road(single or twin idk yet) yes thats done to death too but turbo c5s in general are less common and im on a budget lmao. what all would i need to make a 5.3 swap happen? what type of 5.3 is best? i’m a body man for a living and know about mechanical, i’ve done plenty of mechanical things on my vette and other cars, but i don’t know a lot of in-depth specifics about engines. if anybody has any tips or suggestions about the actual swap or even about buying used engines, building it for a turbo or anything else like that i’d appreciate it.
it’s a t56/z51 fully optioned car if that matters at all. thanks!
The aluminum block L33 5.3 would be the setup I’d go with.
You will need your intake or better yet upgrade to a LS6 intake. The l33 uses the 243 style heads.
You will need your oil pan and exhaust manifolds etc
I’ve never done this swap so maybe some things I haven’t thought of but this will get you started.
