Wipers won't park, just click...
Udders are clean (been so for months). Everything is dry (parked in the garage on jack stands). Wipers were off without issue. I bumped the switch tonight and they popped up, and did the normal thing. I turned the switch off and they return to a "bottom" position on the windshield, but it's not parked AND (here's the fun part), they just make a clicking sound for 10 seconds, then swipe again. It sounds like the discs aren't aligned under the arms (the rotating pieces)? But why is this happening in the OFF position?
I think the clicking is it trying to park them. When the wipers are just ON (regardless of speed), they work great. Washer nozzles work great - everything's great.
I just can't turn them off because they won't park, so they click and fight. Anyone had this happen? I'm going to take the cowl off tomorrow and watch the movement – I'm just curious if anyone reads this and thinks, "yep, happened to me, here's the easy fix."
So I'm still going to open the cowl and see if I need to adjust the pin. After more research, I think the spring loaded pin isn't shifting into position to park (it's trying, hence the clicking). I had this issue on my Grand Prix GTP back in the day. Same mechanism. I'll post an update with images / instructions if it turns out to be an educational endeavor.
I also saw somewhere to check the udders, but they were clean and everything was dry.
I unplugged the wiper fuse from under the glovebox, and drove to where I needed to go.
I put the fuse back in shortly after and have not had it occur again. I don't know if that fuse reset something.
