Default QuickJack 5000TL Setup

Good Morning all. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Quickjack 5000TL while it was on sale at Costco. I will mainly be using it for working on my C3s but will also use it for maintenance on my 2002 Z06. My Z06 is completely stock. My question is what is the proper way to lift the Z06 using the Quickjack? I am guessing most have Jacking Pucks or frame rails? Is anyone using just the blocks that come with the QJ? I am sure this has been asked a time or forty so I apologize but my experience has strictly been with C3s.

You can make your own jacking pucks with hockey pucks and eye bolts. I wouldn't use just the blocks.

It's kinda of an easy choice here. Do you want to risk cracking the rocker covers or not? If damage is unacceptable, you need something round to occupy the space, and provide a gap between the jack/lift and the rocker. You can cheap-out with hockey pucks.....or go wild with a fully machined version.

I have permanent pucks installed on my C5 and position the smaller blocks that come with the quickjack under them. Works perfectly. You definitely want to use the pucks.
On my C4 I just need to use the larger blocks under the jack lift points at the pinch welds.
You will like the quickjack.

I can’t remember if I have the 5000TL or 5000TLX. My Quickjack only hits 1/2 of each puck. You have to use a puck in the back, next time I raise the car, I’m going to try using just the block on the front, looks like you can get it under the hole where the puck goes without hitting the fiberglass. I think I read it on this forum, someone did that and it works fine, as long as you don’t hit the frame rail. But definitely order some pucks.

I have a slightly lowered C5, and any puck combinations and with any of the blocks would not fit unless I jacked up the car a bit.
The whole reason getting QJ's was to just slide them under without having to raise the car first!
What I did was carve out the the square blocks to the size of the pucks, and that fit perfect in the lift locations. I carved out about 3/4 of an inch deep. This clears the rockers 100% and now I can just slide the QJ's under my lowered vette
I have raised and lowered the car at lease a dozen or so times with no issues.

I bought a set of bright yellow polyurethane jacking pucks so that I would notice if I forgot to remove them after working on the car, either using the QuickJack or a floor jack. Yes, if your car is slammed down into the weeds, then fitting anything under the rockers is going to involve a 2-step process, whether that is first driving the car up on some sections of 2x12, or say a set of RaceRamps jack assist ramps. The same would be true with just about any 2-post lift.

To get the C5 up high enough to drop the torque tube / transmission / differential to replace say the clutch or TOB, you would have to raise her up on the QuickJack with say short sections of 2x4 positioned under the pucks, temporarily position jack stands under the subframes, lower the QuickJack and then insert the taller rubber blocks or Truck / SUV adapters so that you can raise her even higher with the QucikJack. Notice in this photo I did not get the passenger front rubber block perfectly positioned under the puck.

Use 2x4's as lifting blocks for lowered cars. They sit JUST proud of the lift top surface to give a place for car to sit on.

The black rubber blocks supplied were too tall for my car. With 2x4's I can slide the lift under my car.

I also have 1/4" thick aluminum frame rail protectors that hit the 2x4's first and not the plastic rocker panels.

Wow that's a neat trick, I'll give that a try!

Sure beats my current method. I have aluminum rails on mine so I raise it just a bit without the blocks and then let it down - the car sits a bit higher after doing so, allowing me to remove the Quick Jacks to get the rubber blocks on and the lift it back up. Kind of annoying.

When you get the QJ, I'd just use Teflon tape on the NPT fittings, being VERY careful not to wrap the tape past the end of the fitting. I tried using the supplied stuff that smelled like Loc-tite and ended up just using the Teflon tape. Great tool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, My car is "functionally low" for autocross CAM class and doing this is easy peasy to slide the lift under the car and up we go. I have yet to find a need to use the rubber blocks for any additional height.

I was having trouble getting the pucks to align with the blocks on my QJ. i bought the round blocks from QJ and i can line them up exactly where the pucks mount on the frame. The bottom half of the block is square and the upper half is round. Works for me

Are these the blocks they are selling for SUVs?

Has has anyone come up with a clever solution to get full engagement of the blocks with the pucks with the 5000TL? I'm thinking about notching a couple of rubber blocks.I'm not comfortable using steel plates and really don't want to use the quickjacks sideways.

I have the same jack. I recommend you use the jacking pucks along with the blocks that come with the jack.

I'd just make a couple smaller ramps with a single layer of 2x10. That should be more than enough to get the QJ under even the lowest cars. I'm trying to figure out if I can build a set of low drive on garage length ramps that will allow me to leave the QJ in place under the car at all times. Like what if you bolted a 2x10 across the whole top? build a ramp to it and drive on. It seems robust enough to drive over. Its the top having holes and alignment that might be an issue.

If anyone hasn't seen this yet-

I tried a couple of the smaller caster sets that were attached via velcro and/or nylon zip ties - they didn't work for very long. Ended up getting the caster set that is sold new here;

...but saved some money by finding it lightly used on this forum. Works great and make life with the Quick-Jack so much easier.

I have the 5000TLX and I made a set of 2x10's ( 4 of them, 2 each side) that sit in the QJ pockets/trays and ride along the top of the frame rails on the QJ's. I had a hard time getting the pockets to line up to the pucks, so this gives me a solid landing vice them being on half way. I'll take some pics tonight, but this solved my issue and they still can slide under the car but I did use the lower style pucks that pop into the puck holes and stay, Thery are about 1/2 height of all of the rubber pucks you normally see.

You can see them in this pic. I bought some derlin square bar stock and made some pieces I screwed into the 2x10's that keep the 2x10's located in the pockets on the QJ's so they can't slide around or move. I'll take some more pics tonight of the 2x10's I made so you can see what I am talking about,
