Default Do I pull the motor to replace the Clutch while doing a HCI install?

I had a lifter fail on my new to me bone stock 01 C5Z this past summer. So I decided to update the motor a bit ahead of schedule. Full HCI package, full exhaust and most accessories. The motor is stripped down to the long block is disconnected from everything but the AC. At this point I have questions about the Clutch.

According to the internet, the stock clutch won't be able to handle the new power I'll be making. So I purchased a

Now when it comes to installing the Clutch. Would it make sense to pull the motor at this point to do the Clutch?

Has anyone do it this way?

Would it be easier to drop the trans, torque tube etc and replace it that way?

I'm new to the C5 and this deepest I've ever dived into a vehicle. I'd appreciate insight from people with experience with this situation.

Thanks in advance.

It isn't a bad idea. C5s are over 20 years and gaskets start leaking. If you do pull it, replace all of the gaskets, using something like the SAC City tools to line up the covers. I'd get a metal allignment tool for the clutch.

You will have to lower the front cradle to get the engine out. Dropping the motor back in and lining the input shaft up on the clutch can be a trying job but doable.

If it were mine I'd pull the torque tube out and check the bearing couplers.
Pull the motor, reseal it. Uppper and lower pan, front and rear cover gaskets and seals.
Put the motor back in, bell housing / clutch on.
install the torque tube/driveline

Zip tie wires that go to the same post on the starter together. Take pictures or make notes as to which wire go to which post.

If you reuse the rockers look at the tips of the pushrods and where the pushrod rides in the rocker for anything that isn't smooth. Run your fingers tips along the surface check for anything that grabs you.

We ratchet strap the AC compressor to the frame, never disconnecting the lines.

Given the extent of the project, the factory service manual is your friend.

If the engine is still stripped to the long block, I think that it would be a lot easier to pull the engine. If the engine has been reassembled, it would probably be easier to go at it from the rear.
