Putting in my Halltech Tric (Thanks 1BadZ  ) and just basically finished everything...but need to know about the filter placement.
Right now...the filter is about 1-1 1/2 inches above the bottom of the front dam(the black thing that scrapes against the ground). Is this too high or too low or is it ok.
From personal experience, if you leave it there keep 11 grand around your going to need it. Water water water and don't think for a moment that you can guard against it.
I just measured mine. Thats almost exactly what I have. Its fine in the rain, just dont go through any big puddles. Avoid all standing water if possible and you will be fine. I have had one on since 99 and no problems.
Had it on my car for year and no problems...so not sure why you automatically think it will get hydrolocked  .
I drove it in the rain...just avoid puddles and I was always fine.
Thanks Matt...just wanted to make sure it was at a good height
Had a tric on my last C5 but the water issue scared me. Went to a Blackwing on the new car. The few HP difference can't be worth the risk of mega buck hydro problems.
One way is to be in traffic and have no choice. It's the slow speed through a puddle that does it, I suppose one could wait till it evaporates to get home but lets be real. How do you turn around when at an intersection with the water ahead and traffic all around. Come on guys it's like saying I don't need seat belts. There are 6 that I know personally and it happened to me also. Your money dude and as far as the cold air thing. Well I thermal coupled the air where the air cleaner usually sits and it was only 3 degrees warmer than outside air. Also, the air above a sun heated pavement is probably hotter than the air under the hood. Oh yes I had mine nearly two years before it happened to me. :mad
I understand where your coming from jimman...
What I am doing is running the Halltech without the Silver "S" piece and having the filter straight on the maf end.
The hole will still be there...when I plan to go to the track...pop in the silver piece and setup for cold air. Only takes 10-15 mins maybe to do the conversion when I want to go to the track. With the filter underhood...even with the hole...it will sorda be like a vortex but not just cold air...and harder to hydrolock than having it set up in TRIC form
